當地時間5月21日，美國駐丹麥大使肯尼思·豪韋裏在格陵蘭島首府努克新美國領事館開幕儀式上發表的講話，稱美國總統特朗普已排除對格陵蘭島使用武力的可能性。格陵蘭島的未來必須由格陵蘭人民自己決定。

特朗普2025年重返白宮以來多次揚言要得到格陵蘭島，並聲稱不排除動用武力。據悉，美國、丹麥和格陵蘭島已成立三方工作組，商討美國在北極地區的安全關切。按丹麥首相梅特·弗雷澤裏克森的說法，工作組“嚐試尋找解決方案”的同時，不會逾越丹麥劃定的“紅線”。
