根據《洛杉磯時報》今天報導，“流行樂之王” 邁克爾傑克遜周四因為心髒病發作昏迷，在洛杉磯一間醫院逝世，CNN則證實他是於周四下午2:26分被宣告死亡，得年50歲，他曾經來台巡回演唱過，他的驟逝令歌迷相當震驚傷心。
《洛杉磯時報》引述市政府和執法部門消息說，周四當地時間下午12時26分左右，救護人員抵達邁克爾傑克遜加州的家中時，他已沒有呼吸，被送往加州大學洛杉磯分校醫療中心搶救，不久醫生正式宣布這位前流行樂壇巨星不治身亡。
CNN則報導求證到他正式宣布死亡的時間為周四下午2:26分，根據邁克爾傑克遜家族律師麥萊恩說，他是由邁克爾傑克遜的哥哥口中得知邁克爾於周四早上在西加州家倒下的消息，911救護車也證實在周四中午12.21分接獲電話， 送往加州大學洛杉磯分校醫療中心，但不願意說明病人狀況。
醫療中心每個入口都被保全封鎖，醫院的職員也封口不說，大批人士在外守候，在他家門外有警察抵達，道路封鎖。群眾隻能在外守候。
一度外傳他因為一再漂白皮膚已罹患皮膚癌，5月邁克爾在美國加州比佛利山公開現身，罕見沒有戴口罩，以全臉示人，企圖消除有關他罹患皮膚癌的傳言。
他原擬7月8日在倫敦舉行演唱會“This is it”，這場演唱會3月即開始預售，引起搶購，證明他魅力未減，但後來卻以技術問題未臻完善為由宣布部分延期，改為7月13日，其他7月份舉行的三場表演，延期到明年3月初舉辦，但這一次他的粉絲永遠等不到他出席了。
