Proscar, an inhibitor of DHT hydroxylase, can prevent the convertion of testosterone to DHT, therefore can cause atrophy of prostate gland and at least slow down the hypertrophic process.

alpha inhibitor causes the relaxation of smooth muscles and improves urinary obstruction. It has no significant effect on prostate growth.
Some herbs contain phytoestrogen and has anti-androgen effect, therefore may inhibit the hypertrophic process.
