說說數學（續）

白天發了一個貼，說數學，不是針對普通的中學數學而言，更多地指向專業的數學研究，或者說至少是大學裏的數學專業。

所謂的高端人才，是指在做研究的前沿努力的那些人。上次碰到一個北大數學係2000年以後畢業的孩子，說來他也有些大學同學在普林斯頓做數學教授了，而且也做得很高興，這些年中國來的孩子挺有起色。

人群中有這種愛好的人的百分比可能不高，就算他們是百分比很低的群體，也應該讓他們有條件充分享受這種活動。

讀到一本不錯的書，抄襲幾句話：

A mathematician, like a painter or a poet, is a maker of patterns. …..

The mathematician’s patterns, like the painter’s or the poet’s, must be beautiful; the ideas, like the colors or the words, must fit together in a harmonious way. Beauty if the first test: there is no permanent place in the world for ugly mathematics.
