My friend told me you need to put your name on the waiting list first. Also there are 2 ways for adoption, one live with the kid for 2 years, or go through some strict psycological interview by the government. (no need to live with the kid)
I would like to adopt one child too, but I heard you need to live with the child for 2 years before you can bring her back. I can't just leave my job for that long. Can this time be special case if chinese government give us some help?
I was discussing with my kids and husband today about the adoption, earlier with friends, pondering the exact same idea: maybe we should start a non-profit org to facilitate all the families who want to help by adopting an orphan from the quake. Adoption is a lifetime commitment. I once visited a friend's friend(mom,Chinese from Taiwan) who adopted a girl(9yr old) from a Sichuan orphanage. The mom quitted a high position well paid hightech job, devoted to this newly adopted daughter. I could feel the overwhelming love and care flowing in the family. Per the mom, the multual devotion and interdependency is rewarding, and she thinks it's destiny which brings them together. She also waited about 2 yrs before the girl could join the family here in the states.
good will!
but has anyone calculated how many 孤兒 could be produced by this earthquake? 30k people dead identified so far, only if some of them are couples, there could be 孤兒. if 3000 among 30k are couples, then there is 1500-2000 孤兒.
"1萬多名市民報名認養四川地震災區孤兒" more than enough already.
lots of government red tapes to go through for international adoption, easier to adopt one in china.
would be great if you can advise more details abt how to adopt one from overseas...
