關於這個詞的來曆還有一個有趣的故事，二戰結束後，美國大力研製新款飛機，每款飛機都有一個理論極限，就是各種參數的設計極限，這一係列設計參數，在航空工程領域叫envelop (本身就是一個數學術語包絡），每款飛機設計出來，都有試飛員對各項參數進行實地測試，push the envelop 就由此得來。
