3. I have never strived hard to make it like one - I like the word "strived" used here, but "it" is not clear here.

Here, make it means "to succeed in life", at least that's what I wanted to say.

4. yellow outside - yellow on the outside ("yellow outside" is understandable, but "yellow on the outside" should be used in English writing.
