The Crystal Palace, probably the most remarkable architecture of the 19th century, was built in Hyde Park for the World Exposition of 1851. Different from the rest of world architectures, it was made of steel and glass. Up to that time in history, it was one of the tallest buildings; therefore it attracted many people from different countries. Large number of merchandises(collective nounplural?), as well as many machines, among which was the most marvelous steam hammer invented by Neil Smith, were transported to the exposition for display. Although travelling wasn’t as easy as nowadays, steam boats still managed to carry thousands of visitors across the English Strait (?) from the Continent. Upon arriving in England, the visitors were then sent to the crystal palace by train. The visitors totaled 6 million. The money earned from the exposition was used to build museums and advanced schools. Later moved to the south of London, the Crystal Palace had remained one of the most famous buildings of the world before it was burnt down in 1936.
