Is your compensation comptitable in the market? Can you be easily replaced by someone with lower salary? Do you love your job? Are you young? If all yes, I would not bother spending too much time on this subject. There is no absolute fairless especially if your starting salary is lower than others (That's probably one of the big reasons they hired you).It is very common that some people are over paid while others are under paid. On the other hand you never know what's the next if you are overpaid.
If you are underpaid and you want to get a pay raise, always think it over before you talk to your boss or HR. Do not rush to them while you are still in anger. The following are some sample questions for you to think.
How is your company's performance? Does it meet its financial expectations? Are you holding a critical role in the company? How is your relationship with your boss and others? What's the chance to get pay rasie? If all the answers are positive, your boss should know you are under paid. If a hint does not work, a talk is not a bad idea especially during the annual review or after a project is well done.
You can threaten to leave and get pay raised if your role is critical to the company, but don't use it twice if you want to stay with the same firm.
Anyway, the most important is to Enjoy your job and Enjoy life.
