浪淘沙九首（其八）- 劉禹錫

 

莫道讒言如浪深，莫言遷客似沙沉。

千淘萬漉雖辛苦，吹盡狂沙始到金。

 

A Quatrain by Liu Yu-xi

 

Say not, as tidal waves, all slanders surge to scold,

Nor deem the banished like sand sunk in river cold.  

Not till through myriad washes, sifts, and trials,

Away the wild sand is blown, and forth shines the gold.
