據路透社報導,海倫颶風的強風、暴雨在北卡羅來納州、南卡羅來納州、喬治亞州、佛羅裏達州、田納西州和維吉尼亞州至少造成90人死亡。死亡人數更可能不斷上升。
由於部分地區的行動通信基地台倒塌,數百人仍無法與親人取得聯繫,被列為失聯狀態。保險公司和預測機構在週末表示,損失估計範圍從150億美元(約4750億新台幣)到超過1000億美元(約3兆1000億新台幣)不等,排水係統、通信和交通路線都受到影響。
北卡羅來納州出現30人死亡,災區更需向州政府申請緊急食物和飲用水。此外,電力中斷,人們需排隊等待數小時加油。“雜貨店關門了,手機信號也沒了,”62歲的市民弗蘭克(Chip Frank)在排隊等了三個小時後表示。“現在全看這些加油站了。如果沒有油,哪裡也去不了,這感覺真是可怕”。
