西班牙法院10月31日宣布，在28名涉嫌參與馬德裏爆炸案的被告中，21人被裁定有罪，其餘7人無罪。
據英國媒體報道，摩洛哥人賈邁勒·祖蓋姆（Jamal
Zougam）數罪並罰，被判入獄超過4萬年。但西班牙刑法中最高隻有40年的刑期，也就是說，祖蓋姆最多隻會坐牢40年。此外，西班牙人埃米利奧·蘇亞雷斯·特拉索拉斯因被認定向襲擊者提供炸藥被判入獄數千年。
2004年3月11日，西班牙首都馬德裏4列旅客列車接連發生炸彈爆炸，造成191人死亡、1824人受傷。這也是該國曆史上最嚴重的恐怖襲擊事件。
