The Most Dangerous Game

What is the most dangerous game in the world? Based on Richard Connell’s fiction “The most dangerous game”, it is hunting human beings.

Rainsford was a very experienced hunter and thought hunting was the best sport in the world. He never realized and cared about the feelings of the preys, their fear of pain and death, until he himself was forced to be hunted on “ship-trap Island”.

The owner of ship-trap Island was Zaroff, a crazy hunter. When he was bored with conventional prey, he started to take humans as the only prey matching his skills and intelligence. Zaroff reconstructed the island in order to shipwreck people to be his targets. Rainsford was one of the victims.  

Being treated nicely by the seemingly genteel Zaroff, Rainsford did not sense he was actually in danger when he first met Zaroff. He naively thought Zaroff would set him free or ask him to hunt with. However, what Zaroff really planed was to take Rainsford as his experience-matched quarry. He expected the most exciting game in his life. Without any other choice, Rainsford managed to win the most dangerous live and death game over Zaroff. In this game, Rainsford thoroughly experienced the fear of pain and being killed as a prey.

The ending of the story resolved all reader’s anxiety since Rainsford was back alive and killed Zaroff, which symbolized the righteousness finally beat the devil.

I enjoyed reading the story, especially enjoyed the dialogue between the hunter and huntee. Life is a lesson for me and I have learned a lot over years to keep me growing. Something just like Zaroff said: “Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong.” Things may go wrong in our life, but if we are strong enough, we always can weather the worst. Rainsford did it.

Zaroff was daredevil and so got kiled. Rainsford had not cared about the feelings of his preys and learned his lesson.

Fascinating..., but I tell you, melly, hunting really gets people so excited that they neither care about the feelings of their preys nor sometimes about those of co-hunters. Mr. Vice President Dick Cheney, a well respected player in this game, proved this point -- If a player is under a bad-luck spell and did not shoot any games, he or she might as well blow his or her co-hunter(s).

That verifies your point -- hunting human beings is the most dangerous game.

You guys are right. I am sure there are related movies though I have not watched yet. Well, this kind does not fit my taste, because it could drive me crazy. Even reading the novel made me nervous. :-)) But it is a good story for sure.

Baby is right, there were two movies having similar story. Besides American one, the other one seemed a French movie(not for sure). The television station rewarded a million to those who were welling to join a playing killer game. Anyone could win the premium if he was alive in the end. I forgot most of the story, just remember the man who was so smart and wasn’t hurt to dead finally, but he didn’t get the prizes because he was soon committed being a madman and was sent to an asylum. I also remember one charming announcer in TV broadcast who helped the man from the beginning. In the end, every audience waited her to speak out the truth. The climax of the movie was the beautiful lady said:” he is lie, he lost his mind”.

我幾年前看過一個不出名的電影和這個故事非常相似，當時覺得很恐怖，已經忘記了電影的名字。：)
美國還有過一個比較有名的電影，也不記得名字了。是講某電視台製作了一個電視連續節目，專門找來一批手無寸鐵的人逃跑，又派一批有先進武器的人追殺他們，用電視鏡頭跟蹤，死了很多人，觀眾不辨真假，非常興奮。終於在某次節目中逃跑的好人戰勝了追殺的壞人，揭露了真相。
