I finished the novel “Rage of angels”, another mystery fiction written by Sidney Sheldon last night. I have a mixed feeling toward Jennifer, the female protagonist. She is an attorney, brilliant and pretty, which is everything a woman expects to have. However, her life is complicated.
The story started with she was set up by Michael, the leader of Mafia family in NYC. As a consequence, she was kicked out of the law office of the district attorney and almost disbarred her license. Her hero, Adam, helped her attorney status and secretly sent her many cases. She worked extremely hard from the very beginning and gradually drew public attention after winning a couple of difficult cases. She established her own law office as a famous attorney.
The other storyline is about her personal life. Needless to say, Jennifer and Adam fell in love, although Adam is a married man. While they planned to get married after Adam divorced with his wife Mary, both Mary and Jenifer found out their pregnancy. The timing was not good for Jennifer for Adam was in a companion of running for Senator. Jennifer gave up Adam and planned to have an abortion. Unfortunately, she changed her mind and her life was also fundamentally changed. Her son Josh, a cute and smart boy, was kidnapped by a psychotic client who believed that Jennifer set him up. He wanted to kill Josh in order to punish Jennifer. Jennifer had no way to go except seeking help from Michael, who loved her and tried hard to get her. The criminal was killed. Jennifer, as something in return, started working for Michael. None of her friends could stop her and she told herself many times that this would be the last one. However, she could not get rid of Michael and his organization. At the meantime, Adam was running for president and working on to destroy Michael’s organization. Jennifer was in between of the two men, whom she loved and hated.
Now when I am writing a summary for my record, I still can’t explicitly express my feeling with regards to Jennifer’s life. I admire her intelligence, her beauty and encouragement. I understand her choice, though it is seemingly a stupid, incredible. Michael, though a godfather-like person in crime organization, stimulated her feminine and she was like a flower enjoying her own beauty and charm. Adam, a symbol of justice and righteousness, is her true love. But the reality separated them apart. I don’t know if Jennifer hated Adam, or Adam destroyed her. But that a woman is easy to lose herself when facing a man she likes seems a unquestionable fact. Maybe this is life.
Thank you very much for stopping by. I am so honored. It is a good book to read, fun and thought provoking.
