（一）
天子重英豪，文章教爾曹(1)。
萬般皆下品，惟有讀書高。
（五）
朝為田舍郎(2)，暮登天子堂。
將相本無種(3)，男兒當自強。
（七）
莫道儒冠(4)誤，詩書不負人。
達(5)而相天下(6)，窮(7)則善其身(8)。
（十九）
久旱逢甘雨，他鄉遇故知(9)，
洞房花燭夜，金榜題名時。
1. 爾曹：你們。
2. 田舍郎：農夫、村夫。
3. 無種：不是天生的。
4. 儒冠：古代讀書人戴的帽子。借指讀書、學文化。
5. 達：事業發達、顯赫。
6. 相天下：當宰相治理天下。
7. 窮：事業不發達、不順利。
8. 善其身：使自己具有良好的品行和修養。
9. 故知：老朋友。

Emperors value outstanding figures,
And educate you with various writings.
The worth of all other pursuits is small,
Book reading excels all other careers.
