也聊鄉味兒

近日看文學城博客,MYCHINA博主的一篇《這世界上就是有些人心眼兒特別不好》,用反諷來講述他被同鄉發送回的京味兒吃食饞的不行的情形,文章讓人暗笑不止。在佩服博主的幽默之時,我憶起了自己鏈接的陝西同鄉群中我的同鄉分享的鄉味視頻及其一些有關故鄉味道的話題。小述如下。

MYCHINA博主提到的京味兒菜品和京味兒小食我吃過一些。畢竟我在中國四十年,有七八年每年出差路過北京兩三次。辦事兒之餘,試過一些。像烤鴨啥的,在京吃過兩次,在西安吃過得更多次,嘴巴呢其實都要忘了它的味道了。其他,像炒肝試過不大喜歡,豌豆黃我很愛。其他麵食像三不沾啥的,從沒試過。我估計大多數文城人都沒試過,除了北京原籍的人士。我沒到美國前,就聽我早二十年移民的家裏人講,紐約華人很多北上廣來的,西北人很少。我移民此地,也是多見福建人浙江人東北人,台灣人,香港廣東移民過來的同胞,也有若幹北京籍鄰居們。故MYCHINA對京味吃食的思念會有一眾北京原籍城友共情。
我的紐約陝西同鄉群裏,我同鄉分享的是陝西籍一個叫周峰的教授,他回國時采訪錄製了他在鳳翔寶雞地區回鄉探親訪友時的食美食情形。他的視頻應在YOUYUBE上有。周先生受邀的主家都是陝西那地方的作家或當地文人,主家盛情,請周教授吃的是最地道的陝西鳳翔寶雞飯食,如岐山哨子麵,如攪團。周用中英文介紹當中美食的淵源和製作方法食用方法,他講中文時全用的當地岐山土話,跟當地朋友講古也是,特別有味道。這視頻是有見識的人有思路有條理地攝錄的,即介紹了陝西西府美食,也有鄉情鄉味兒。這些視頻一轉發,獲得了我們同鄉群內的一片讚譽,我就看了好幾遍。我是很欣賞他的做法。即使我是陝西人,在陝多年也是在西安市區活動,很少機會接觸西府的文人,還由他們介紹西府美食,能想象賓主皆歡,談話有味,大塊朵頤的情形。是人間至味。
         同樣的情形我隻遇到過一回,那是在讀山東出版社出版的老城市係列中老西安一分冊時感受到的。老西安那本書是由陝西籍作家賈平凹執筆。那本書中,他用對那片土地最深厚的情感描繪西安的一切,對西安美食的敘述那簡直不是散文了,是詩,是激情,是對故鄉的熱愛。我估計老城市係列圖書的其他分冊分城市,也是由出版社聘請當地作家撰稿的,有那城市感情才能寫出有感情有溫度的文字。我是能找到的每一本都細細讀過。很感慨。也很想去他們描述的城市深度遊。在紐約,我已會讀當地那城鎮紀念專冊。我讀過紐約好些市鎮的曆史圖冊。除了我住了七年的紐約某市鎮,唯一有印象的是長島市曆史圖冊。它是由一位學人組稿寫作發行的,它不像一般紐約市鎮分冊,多曆史圖片。它主要是文字,還是有溫度有感慨的文章占絕大多數篇幅的曆史紀念冊。在同類中獨樹一幟,有曆史有文化,有考古有地理有地質,真是有見識的人的力作。令人印象深刻。這模糊有距離的感覺,應該是我是紐約移民的關係。文化鏈接,心裏鏈接都弱一些。扯遠了,我意思是若MYCHINA文友的朋友,也發揮地主長項,攝製由北京土著引導,北京籍移民華裔主持的中英文美食視頻節目,兼顧中西,拍北京美食,更拍京味兒京情。那樣恐怕受眾更眾,非北京人士,南客北客都得到更多知識更多樂趣。僅意見啊。
         再說其他省的吃食。我跳廣場舞的一個姐姐是溫州人,其實那隊伍裏有一票溫州姐姐,福建姐姐們(以長樂居多)。某日那姐姐發送一則視頻,是她表弟喬遷新居,款待客人的豐盛餐食,光一次性鋁箔紙大餐盒就有三四十個。裏麵雞鴨魚肉海鮮很多,每盒都有六磅八磅那麽多那麽滿。據她說多數是請廚師來家炒製,少數是外賣而來(估計是燒臘烤豬之類),花銀錢五千多美元。據說有時一萬美元也有。那姐姐家是做生意的,很成功。她表弟應該是開大超市的,也挺成功。
         我看著她發的視頻,腦袋裏有種感覺。直覺啊,覺得他們家是“村”裏的。因為他們宴客的那些大盤大盞,可勁兒用好料,可勁兒讓客人吃肉的勁頭,因為喬遷新居一次款待七八十人飯食,又比較節約餐具/準備/擺盤等細節的做法,很像陝西農村結婚啊過紅白喜事的流水席。那也是不拘形式,主辦家就地搭棚子,或全村上陣,妯娌嫂子全都是火頭軍,村裏上至八十歲老人,下至幼齒兒童,全都上下一新,喜氣洋洋地集體做喜事的,或請做流水席的專業團隊拉來席棚桌椅大批盤盞,由主家加持,全村歡慶迎接外來賓客的集體活動。是很有中國式傳統的一種體現,也是農耕文化的一種鄉鄰連接方式。我在西安時有農村考學出來工作的年輕同事。那樣的婚宴,我參加過好幾回,分別在藍田地區,鳳翔地區,寶雞地區等。它似乎已經漸漸淡出曆史舞台了。但在紐約,富裕的悶聲發大財的溫州人浙江人福建人的圈子裏,還延續了這種鄉俗文化。他們也是在保存中國傳統。可能因為不大進過學(我遇到的大多數溫州姐姐們或福建姐姐們都是家裏是做生意的,或99C店或理發店或超市或服裝店,他們內部似還會起會幫同鄉集資拿到生意啟動資金),他們其實更中國,更傳統。這沒什麽好不好。
       我是因為接觸她們,仿佛接觸到一個計算機子機,接觸到自己從沒去過的溫州福建的鄉俗。我是挺有興趣的。畢竟少時讀徐霞客遊記,那沿海幾省的風物人情隻在書頁上,並沒有太多實際接觸過。在紐約這個熔爐裏,我力求團結一切可以團結的人。於是會跟各省大姐們一起跳廣場舞,一起拉家常。也努力聯想中國這麽大,各地人們都是怎樣遵從傳統的。如我一蘇州大姐,近幾個月回鄉省親,她一住蘇州就是兩個月。另一大姐,一回暫住上海就是兩三個月。其他也是。她們接觸的風土人情都是我接觸不到的,因而會很有興趣聽,再對比自己從書本網絡信息得來的點滴,對比起來挺有味兒。
       即我因著別人的戀鄉,戀鄉味兒,也滿足了自己的中國情結中國思戀中國教育。這情結這鄉味兒會亙古綿長,不斷回味下去。

西安遊子 回複 悄悄話 回複 'elfie' 的評論 : Thanks for your response. though I cannot figure out where is your hometown.it is definitely belonging to the South of Changjiang River. from my point of view ,using turtle in a wedding party was quite luxurious. with my limited experience , I only tried a dinner with a sop made by a turtle twice, both for business aim, both exceeded the fee more than RMB2000. Maybe it was less expensive in your hometown. like I visited a large park near long island, the turtles there swam freely in the pond, and people set up a ladder made of ire wire net, helping them to climb the shore of lake very friendly. I watched them quite a while to figure out their pattern on the backs fitting with my memory in the back of the bottom stone turtle of ancient calligraphy stele in the "forest of Stele" of Xi'an. Maybe Oranges which grow in the southern part of Anhui province are sweet, but those which grow in the northern part are less delicious ; (淮南為橘,淮北為枳)。Thanks again.

So there's little nostalgia. I quickly adapted to my current life.
I went to different states and worked different jobs. I joined the army, I went to graduate school, and I teach at elementary school now.
After 20 plus years of not living in China, my taste of food has also changed. I never need to go looking for Chinese groceries anymore. There's only one thing that I still like, the noodles. Dried, packaged, not homemade. At first I still spent time making noodles by hand, then I found out it was unnecessary.
The dried noodles in the package are just as good as the fresh ones and it's way faster!
When I was a high school kid, my lunch was always a bowl of machine cut noodles with some raw, smashed garlic or instant noodles with an egg. That's the only Chinese dish I want to stick with when I feel the craving for carbs and my time is in a crunch. Easy and filling. All the other stuff, like more elaborate dishes and feasts, I don't remember them that well anymore. I remember people eating pigeons, snakes and snap turtles for their wedding banquet. But it feels so bizarre now. Why is turtle meat a delicacy? Pigeons are so tiny. It is indeed a by-gone era to me. It feels like the prior life of me, before I turned into a real adult, when there were still grandparents and parents and I was a child.
