Happy End: Life Had Changed

Living in the US, my life had totally changed and rearranged. It had shaken up and relocated me to the place I meant to be. There was the biggest church in Rolla, named First Baptist Church. It held on an international student group for teaching the Bible. A couple, Mr. Randy and Ms. Cheryl led the group. Randy was the class teacher. He graduated and obtained a Master's degree from a Baptist College. He was a gentle and polite, and sense of humor. He was talented, knowledgeable, and patient in teaching the Bible. Cheryl was our class manager she was easy-going and liked to help others going through a tough time. Her personality was my favorite part. I called her a sunny lady: smile brighter and laugh harder.

Every Saturday night, we got together at their house to have a potluck,  learn Bible, and follow a desert. At the very beginning, Randy taught us the gospel. Since the most students came from godless countries, they all didn’t have any knowledge of the Bible. They wanted to learn some basic information about the Bible. I ask Randy if it was possible to play some movies to help us get the first impressions of the background. Randy did it. He found a lot of Bible stories movies, such as Jesus, Moses, Joseph, Abraham, Esther, etc. Each class, he just played one segment and explained the background of the story, and asked some questions. We all loved this kind of teaching style. We both learned the Bible and improved our English.

The church conducted an English as a second language class to help international student improve their speaking. Randy was one of the instructors. The class attracted many students to attend. Gradually, some of them also joined our Bible study group. The couple also organized some actives, such as the state trip, farm tour, outdoor swimming, indoor skate, BBQ festival, Christmas party, etc.  We really enjoyed the time spent with the couple. Eventually, the group became famous in the college campus and it became bigger and bigger and even reached 50 people.

I noticed that Randy and Cheryl would like to give a hand to each of us to support us going through everything. Once upon a time, my son broke his leg. Cheryl companied us to see a doctor and explained the situation because she knew we had a language barrier. Then, she called our insurance company to report the accident and negotiated with an agent for obtaining the most fanatical assistance. Without her aids, we would not be able to handle the situation. She affected us using her passion and behavior. We were touched deeply. Every time, when we thanked them, they always said they served God.

Next year, we accepted Jesus as our saviors and Baptized at the first Baptist church.  We became a  Christian family. Soon my husband and I got two decent jobs. We left the town and said goodbye to the couple. Until that moment, I realized it didn’t mean I had to read through the whole Bible from the old testament to the new testament, or I had to be perfect, then I could receive Christ. It was about faith. I could be a Christian at any time for any reason.  Like Martin Luther King Jr said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

From the first time listening to Bible story to baptizing, it took around four decades. I have to say that it takes a long journey to believe in God. I am thankful for all the people who influenced me with their behavior, touched me with their mercy, taught me with their patience, helped me with their passion, and brought up the best in my life. All of those (everything I had experienced and everyone I have met) were meant to happen to me to help me grow. They occurred at the right time and for the best reason.

The safest place in the world is in the God's arms. He will not only hold you at your best time, but also pick you up and hug you tightly at your weakest moment.
