Taking classes at the Beijing Dance Academy was very different from what I am used to, and I was a little bit out of my comfort zone. It was a whole new and different experience. The whole environment there was very unlike what I am usually around. It was a little intimidating at first because I was training with a professional Russian ballet master and girls that are older than me that have been specially selected out of many that attend auditions to enter the academy. At the dance academy, there were higher standards than what I am used to. In the ballet master’s eyes, every move we did could have been done better. Most of the time, we were far from executing the step perfectly. Sometimes, I would get a little bit discouraged since I am not used to such harsh and strict training. But, in the end I would come through and want to try even harder. Despite being younger and not as professional compared to the other girls, I was able to pick up new material very quickly. I am also very proud of myself for being one of the girls in my class that was chosen to perform at the performance that took place at the end of the camp. I was very honored. I would not be able to achieve what I have up to today without the many years of great and special training from Mr. Chen. He has made me the dancer I am today. The entire energy and environment while you are on the campus feels very professional and a little overwhelming at times. However, after attending the camp, I feel that I have learned a great abundance of things and grown as a dancer. My eyes were opened by seeing, living, and dancing in such a professional environment. It was truly a great experience.
