My mom lived 103+ years. She walked 5 miles to work and then from work for years. She had 7 living children; she stopped driving at 85 at my insistence but walked every day with her sister for miles after the children were grown. She walked, was an avid reader, and was active in the community, playing different card games, cooking for groups, and traveling. When she couldn't walk as well, she sat and and played word games. Puzzles. She had general memory problems but never forgot a grandchild, her family, or friends' names. I refused most drugs, except pressure and cholesterol medications, though I forced that. Vaccines were stopped—no vitamins or even aspirin. She was an insomniac.. and she blamed us for 7 kids! Doctors agreed that she knew more about staying alive than most of us would ever know. I loved garlic, mushrooms, olive oil, and real food. She was a sun worshipper and had 3 bad weeks when she decided she'd had enough and just wouldn't get out of bed. She did it her way.
