美國首都曆史~Happy 4th of July

下麵這段影像講述了國會山莊建造曆史,也反映了美國曆史

Former national capitals:From 1774 to 1800, Congress met in numerous locations; therefore, the following cities can be said to have once been the United States capital
United States Constitution
Federal Hall, New York City, New York: March 4, 1789 to December 5, 1790
Congress Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: December 6, 1790 to May 14, 1800
United States Capitol, Washington, D.C.: November 17, 1800 to December 8, 1815
Old Brick Capitol, Washington, D.C.: December 8, 1815 to 1825
United States Capitol, Washington, D.C.: 1825 to present

費城獨立宮Independence Hall,1776年7月4日獨立宣言在此簽署,1787年憲法也在此製定。

Washington monuments is the tallest landmark in Washington DC.仿古埃及方尖碑(obelisk),高169米,曾因內戰期間缺乏經費而停建,後來再建時已經找不到完全一樣顏色的大理石,所以可以看到紀念碑是上下兩個顏色的。華盛頓是唯一一位沒有入駐白宮在華盛頓特區任總統的,美國第一個首都是紐約,第二個是費城,最終定在DC特區建都.

林肯總統紀念堂外觀采用雅典建築風格,36個圓柱代表當時聯邦的36個州,後來又增加了12個州寫在圓柱上方,而最後加入的阿拉斯加和夏威夷則刻在地上了。

林肯紀念堂內牆上刻著著名的蓋茨堡(葛底斯堡)演說(Gettysburg Address):

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

八十七年前,我們先輩在這個大陸上創立了一個新國家,它孕育於自由之中,奉行一切人生來平等的原則。

但是,從更廣泛的意義上說,這塊土地我們不能夠奉獻,不能夠聖化,不能夠神化。那些曾在這裏戰鬥過的勇士們,活著的和去世的,已經把這塊土地聖化了,這遠不是我們微薄的力量所能增減的。我們今天在這裏所說的話,全世界不大會注意,也不會長久地記住,但勇士們在這裏所做過的事,全世界卻永遠不會忘記。毋寧說,倒是我們這些還活著的人,應該在這裏把自己奉獻於勇士們已經如此崇高地向前推進但尚未完成的事業。倒是我們應該在這裏把自己奉獻於仍然留在我們麵前的偉大任務——我們要從這些光榮的死者身上吸取更多的獻身精神,來完成他們已經完全徹底為之獻身的事業;我們要在這裏下定最大的決心,不讓這些死者白白犧牲;我們要使國家在上帝福佑下自由的新生,要使這個民有、民治、民享的政府永世長存。

這裏國慶節才允許放鞭炮,也熱鬧一番。不過我們去的海邊房子那個郡不能放,我們遙遙看到另一個海濱小鎮放很多花。 我去年陪姨媽姨父和媽媽旅遊正好路過這戰場附近,,其實並不是很遙遠的曆史。榮幸我們生活在和平的天空下。自由的國度,勇敢的人們,the best of both worlds^_^
