A famous Müncher Christian Morgenstern (1871-1914) [1]
Translated by xia23
Christian Morgenstern [2] was born on May 6, 1871 in Munich. After he dropped out from his law school he started to write. He first wrote literature and theater criticism for different newspapers and magazines. In 1905 he published his first poem collection Gallows Songs, from which the following poem was selected:
The water
Without a word, without a word
The water always runs forward;
Otherwise, otherwise
It would speak nothing else:
Beer and bread, kind and loyal. –
And that won’t be new for all.
They show, they show,
The water is silent though.
