State Treasurer Bill Lockyer announced that individual investors ordered $1.836 billion in California short-term bonds Tuesday, which he called an excellent start as the state seeks to shore up its cash needs.
The first day order represents nearly 46 percent of the state\'s initial $4 billion offering. Among the participants was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who ordered $100,000 in bonds, according to spokesman Aaron McLear.
Keep California great. Invest in our Golden State, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a radio ad that began airing Tuesday, urging Californians to buy $4 billion in bonds to help finance day-to-day expenses.
Yields on the bonds, which mature in May and June, are expected to range from 3.75 percent to 4.5 percent.
