07-08-07 16:20:40 Most people say that it takes a month or so for a kid to start a new language. That is why my PD kept telling me to talk to her only in Chinese. It is true that once they are in an English environment, they prefer to use English more than Chinese. So it is up to 小睿's personality and his language skill (the stronger, the harder). I would not worry about communication with other kids at playground. Before the age of 3, kids play parellel anyway and they can play well together without using any real meaningful language. It is the communication between 小睿 and adults (teachers) in his future school that is the issue. My D had no problem communicating with other kids in less than a month (her little English was already better than most kids who barely speak complex sentences), but the inability to communicate with adults at complex levels was the problem.
