澳洲報刊有關桂係報導選(3)

【一點感想：這一年，日軍入侵廣西。從這篇報導來看，日軍進攻廣西，而且將會從北海登陸的跡象已經很明顯。在香港的西方觀察家和有關報刊也都有所報導。但作為小諸葛的白崇禧，卻未對此引起重視。甚至連他的桂林行營的作戰參謀們，將有關這方麵情報匯總交給他，白崇禧仍然不予重視，更不增兵守衛日軍可能登陸的地點。所謂“知己知彼，百戰不殆”，白氏在如何防禦日軍1939年進攻廣西這個問題上，顯然並未做到這一點。而更重要的是，由他任命的高級軍官組建的守衛北海的廣西部隊，玩忽職守，未負起守土之責，被日軍一擊即潰，這亦與白排斥能戰之將、任人唯親的做法有關。我以前曾指出，白氏在抗戰後的那些指揮，都無出彩之處。換言之，白氏在抵禦外敵的指揮方麵，其知識和能力都已落伍許多，此時，他隻是在吃統一廣西和北伐時期的指揮能力的老本而已——廉頗老矣。惜乎。】

LONDON, Tuesday.

The Japanese continue to make devastating air raids on the leading towns in Kwangsi, Kwangtung, and Hunan Provinces, causing terrific damage and thousands of casualties.

There has been an almost incessant hail of bombs for 72 hours.

Russian pilots took part in a retaliatory Chinese raid on the Japanese airport, Yuchen, and, it is claimed, destroyed 50 Japanese planes.

From Hong Kong it is reported that large-scale troop movements, which the Japanese are trying to keep secret, are believed to be the reason for the long ban which the Japanese have imposed on foreign warships calling at Canton. It is thought likely that the Japanese are preparing to attack Pakhoi, on the Gulf of Tongking.

From the seat of the Chinese Government, Chungking, it is announced that Wang Ching-wei, chairman of the Central Political Council of the National party, will shortly visit Europe as a "tourist," this disposing of rumours that he was to accept a post in one of the Japanese puppet States.
