李敖:Better Say Right Than 自由

(2007-03-28 23:51:41) 下一個
Better say right than freedom.

In my observation, it seems 李 doesn't very much understand the western concept of freedom. In West, the freedom is considered as a buzz word, which is good for nothing, except for political purpose. They know there is nothing totally free in the world so long as you are a material being.

In their society, people prefer to say whether you have right to say or do something. As a citizen, we'd ask if our action is decent (social acceptable), bears good social consequence, and respects others' rights, when exercising our right.

As a writer or thinker, we should ask ourselves whether our thinkings are independent of some authorative influence( such as religious teaching), and of other social and economical influence during writing.

For instance, a woman is going to walk NAKED in a street as she thinks it is her freedom to do so. For an adult, I might feel harassed because my sex would be aroused not at a right time and not on right occasion. For children, it is too early to activate their sexual curiosity by viewing the naked too much, which might lead their problematic sexual behavior due to their under-maturity. Is the woman behaving decent and responsible for the society as a whole when pursuing her freedom?

As last, for a society, freedom means more social reasonableness in terms of humanity, social wellbeing and justice than doing whatever I like regardless of social consequence and decency, and than being smart to take advantage of the buzz word, freedom, to work for my own profit.

I think I have already addressed your perspective of freedom in my last paragraph, that is, the reasonableness.

For everyone is afraid of death, they hope there is an afterlife for them in the heaven. For everyone is living under too many physical and social constraints, they dream of freedom. This is what we are.

In West, thinkers are seeking the ultimate laws to govern our life. By strickly observing the laws, people gain freedom, just like strickly observing traffic rules.

 From thrawn
that is why Li said freedom is in PRC's own constitution and not outside. Freedom in constitution means freedom with boundaries and not total freedom. Total freedom only exists in Anarchy
