monkey or girl

When C was a baby baby, I used to call her my little monkey or little piggy. Every time A heard it, (he was about 5 years old then) he always corrects me, 'Amao, she is a human being (REN2)' with confusion in his eyes.  I could hardly explain to him, but just smile back.



Today, when I said to C' Aren't you my little monkey?' First she responded yes. Then she said 'Mommy, I am not a monkey.' 'No you are not. You are my little girl' 'No, mommy, I am a BIG girl!'
