Blooms: spring and early summer, sometimes again in fall

Hardiness: hardy to semi-hardy

Because they are so easy to grow, it is convenient to snub volets. But these plants have some fine qualities, including the ability to grow in shade or sun, smother weeds and produce flowers that are fragrant and adorable. Viola sororia “Freckles” is a speckled beauty.

Planting

Seeding: Indoors in spring.

Planting out: Spring

Spacing: 30cm apart.

Growing

Violets will grow equally well in full sun or partial shade. Soil should be fertile, humus rich, moist and well drained. Violets self-seed freely and you may find them cropping up here and there in unlikely places in the garden. Cultivars may not set seed. Divide in spring or fall.

Tips

Violets are good for rock gradens, walls and the front of a border but can be invasive. (摘錄)
