I enjoy reading your post very much.
Here are some thoughts for JHU.
JHU send more than 200 students (current graduates and alumni) to US medical schools every year and more than 100 students to law schools.
JHU is a top feeder shcool for medical schools.
JHU is also very strong in other disciplines. The most important thing for choosing school is whether it is a perfect match for what the student wants and what the school can offer.

Columbia core =Columbia CC? 哥大是我們下一所要參觀的學府,還不是很了解。孩子能進當然好,但是這樣的頂尖大學就很難預料了。
Never understand why Columbia core is a big deal. We can compare this way:
1. If you want to challenge yourself, any top college has enough tough classes as tough as Columbia's if not tougher - It's a tie.
2. If you want to spend more time on EC and activities other than classes, you have the freedom. - A win for other top colleges.
What do you mean Columbia CC has lower admission rate than Harvard? Where did you get the data? I do know Columbia College has lower admission rate than Fu Engineering School (don't want to mention Barnard College). But Columbia College's admission rate is lower than Harvard's? Also, you do want to compare apple to apple. If you want to compare admission rate of the lowest at Columbia to Harvard's overall admission rate, I believe Harvard must have even lower rates if you look at different majors.
Columbia is a great college but don't try to make such misleading comparison to other top colleges. Johns Hopkins is strong on Medicine. But if you really want to go to Medical School, the undergraduate is going to be a cut-throat competition there (may be more so than ivy colleges since students at ivy colleges may not want to spend so much time on classes) because so large a percentage of students want to go to Medical Schools. We have better choices out there. I know someone who turned down Duke (another medical doctor power house) and went to UNC for under. She graduated with good GPA and was accepted to both Duke and Johns Hopkins. She ends up going to Duke, which I agree with her.
