Your take: "The core of Obamacare has two parts: 1. patient protection; 2.healthcare affordability.". These two goals are contradictory to each other.
The so-called "patient protection" will destroy "affordability". The reason is simple: There is no free lunch. Obamacare forces insurers to cover pre-existing conditions, kid up to 26 and all those "protections". Who do you think pays the extra cost? You and me!
Obamacare in theory make insurers cover those 40 million uninsured people. Who do you think is going to pay? Again you and me!
Now you know why insurance premium will only go up, not down.
Furthermore, Obamacare gives companies incentive to drop insurance and dump employees to obamacare. How would like that?
The "pre-existing condition" mandate is the most obsurd goverment intervention. When it is enforced, those deadbeats will wait until sick to buy insurance and insurers can't deny them. So the insurers either go down, or pass the cost to everyone.
The real solution to "affordability" is allow interstate competition among insurers and reform the malpractice lawsuit process. Obama and Dems refused to include these Republican ideas. The cost will only go up.
