1. many charity advertise for car/boat donation, they will come pick it up and issue a receipt, this is your tax deductible receipt but usually with no amount on it, when you file tax, you either get a KBB book value or call someone get a certify value. if you care, you can call BMV and get a refund, yes you can cancel your insurance after they tow it away.
2. if you intend to keep it, you should keep it licensed, because if one day you want register it again,you have to pay back all usage tax for all those un-licensed years. if you intend no to drive it, you can buy just storage liability coverage, $65 a year, but bear in mind, this coverage will not cover anything if you drive it, my wife put her roadster in storage each for 6 month.
