Hi, we have a 12 unit apt building. One american guy (on 1st floor) have two dogs and admitted have flea problems. Now another apt (on 2nd floor) above this american guy found fleas and two students got bitten by fleas with red little dots all over their legs. The 2 students do not have any dogs and cats and they have wood floor in their apt. They do not have flea problem before until last month. So it is highly possible the fleas were coming from the downstairs apt. (though we do not have evidence)
Of course we can treat both apts with flea bombs and Diatomaceous Earth. But we are concern if the American guy does not cooperate with us to clean his dogs regularly, the fleas will keep coming back no matter how hard for us to bomb the apts. His apt is pretty dirty.
Ask for your suggestions:
1. Should I terminate the lease of the american guy and let him leave? He is on monthly by monthly lease and I can give him 60-days notice for lease termination.
2. Can I ask him to turn his dogs to animal shelters and never bring them back, if he insist on staying in the apt?
Can I give the american guy two options: either his dogs leave, or he has to leave?
3. What is the possibility that fleas spread around to other apts if residents are close friends? No dogs or cats in other apts.
Thank you very much for your opinion! Brother JY101, psl let me know what is the best way to handle this? You are the expert on many areas. :)
