I had done this. My friend's kid ( a college junior then ) wanted to move into a two-bedroom apartemnt off campus in 2010. She wanted two bedrooms as her parents come to visit her often. The rental company required a cosigner in north America even though they could present a bank statement with a large balance. In my case, things turned out to be just fine. I was asked to sign a document again as recent as last week, this time for vacating the apartment as the girl is graduating from the college and will be moving out at the end of May.
