This line of poetry requires the word "time" to be a solid piece of thing like a piece of stone or a bench 嘻嘻, only in such context "half of time" delivers its punch.

The Chinese word "時間" has too many connotations ("it spreads out"). It doesn't have that physical solidity  as its English counterpart does.
