ask your formal employer to testify that you have worked for them for what period. Bascially if you worked for state-run company or government,shi-ye-dan-wei, they will treat the period  before 1992 as the period you have made contribution. I know a little bit about this because I worked as a programmer in Chinese SS area before I came to the US.
