Please read my other posts. You should call the SS bureau where your hukou. If your hukou now is in a different province as the one you worked,it would be quite difficult. It depends on whether your documentations(Dang An) had been successfully transferred.
If you had worked for the province hospital for more than 15 years, you will be entitled the Chinese SS and medical benefit when you retire.
I would suggest that you find the telephone # of your local Chinese SS(She Bao Ju). I know a case in Shanghai that a friend in a She Bao Ju told me that a gentleman's daughter immigrated to Australia and married a white guy. She also helped her parents immigrated to Australia late 90s. The girl's mother passed away and the gentle did not want to stay in Australia any more. He moved back to Shanghai. Even her daughter was willing to support her living cost but the medical expense was too expensive. He went to SS office in his jie-dao. They helped him to track back his employment history and fortunately he had a little over 180 months of services in China. He was entitled to the SS and medical benefit.
The amount of SS benefit is calculated beased ont he year of services. You get what you have paid for. The longer and more you paid during employment, the more you will get. This is why a lot of managers in State-run companies are making their companies to contribute more. Thsi is another type of corruption. If you make contribution by yourself as self-employed, you pay both the employer and employee part.
