評郝景芳科幻短篇《北京折疊》

試想整座京城像個三圈馬戲表演場，高中低端人口各佔一圈，各在其圈內演其生活作息，彼此間不相聞問，老死不相往還。這樣子的馬戲，在座諸君看了會過癮呢？還是會看不下去而離場呢？

不用擔心。在郝景芳筆下，首善之都決不是上述那個模樣的。雖然，她的北京還是個三端即三層分立的北京，倒不像我那樣子馬戲化及平麵化。她是一位物理學專家，所以就從物理學角度，據物理學原理，造就了一座能折能疊，因此也真能折騰蒼生的超現代權力中心。

作者的北京，憑借鬼推磨似的機械動力，立體化地把三端人口的作息時空分割開來。高端天堂，中端地上，低端地底。低端上進不得，中端下滑可能，高端就高端至極。

作者沒有解釋何以獨是北京弄成這個樣子，沒有解釋其他一線城市如何跟北京接軌，沒有解釋北京如何跟各國接軌，雖然明明又寫著高端北京權貴君臨天下，接受外使外商朝拜。總之，最高權力者就憑折疊北京而穩坐江山。奇怪的是，作者同時又點出折疊北京的鬼機器畢竟敵不過作為低端人的主角。幸運的主角有人指點迷津，偷偷上攀再上攀，進了中端進高端，瞞天過海，得以改變他提攜的一個低端小孩子本來不可改變的命運。作者的寓意無須多說，因為這樣的寓意，許許多多牆外的小說、電影都重複過，了無新意。話雖如此，譯成英語後，倒得到牆外英語讀者的垂青。

我肯定英譯者的貢獻，卻難以肯定中文作者的成功。
