She carried the dirty clothes down to the nearest stream in a basket. She watched other women to learn how to wash clothes. They soaked the clothes in water, then lifted them and laid them on a smooth stone. Then they beat the wet clothes with a wooden stick, so the dirt on the clothes would be squeezed out along with the water. Then they dipped the clothes in water again and shook them around to let the released dirt wash away with the current. After a while they took the clothes out and wrung them dry.
