Some idioms can be translated literally, but many need to be converted into words more appropriate in the language to which they are translated. Sometimes, it is possible to substitute a common idiom in the translated text for the idiom in the text to be translated, as long as they have equivalent meanings.

90 miles is only half of a 100-mile walk. The final stretch is always the most difficult.
