Since you are competent in French, Montreal is a right place for you.

There 4 major U in Montreal, McGill and Concordia are English U, U de Montreal and UQAM (U Quebec au Montreal) are French U.

If you attend the latter two, you don't need to pass any English competent exams for entrance.

Most students just rent an appartment in the downtown area.
