Talking Weight Lifting in our lives
--Won second place at a local English competition

--by Miao Miao

Cheering spectators are getting quiet. A strong man he walks towards a weight, one-two-three. He did it! The huge weight is proudly lifted up into the air!

Weight lifting, we can imagine behind the victory there must be yearly hard working. His courage overcame the pressure to challenge his potential ability inspiring me, the spirit keeps me thinking. We are like those athletes facing pressure in our lives! In many cases, we are qualified in our positions. But we may have more than that. We have potential abilities, you never know if we grasp an opportunity we may surprise at who we can be. However, opportunities come along with the pressure, risks. If it brings not only glory but also the suffering, are we willing to take it?

“take a try!” a small but strong voice raised up in one’s mind and encouraged the person when the chance was there “No, think about who you are, think about the environment, you won’t win”, Another cower voice small but clear; the person then withdrawed and stayed what he/she was. The chance was gone. After many years, the person recalled the moment, and regret!

When the chance lied in front of Barack Obama, many voices were heard like “Obama is not ready to lead”. But Obama stood up and took the campaign opportunity running for president. His wife encouraged him and gave him her strong support. She talked about The natural fear of possibility… She said “when I looked at my whole life, always being told by *****, that I’m not ready. I cann’t do sth, my scores won’t be high enough. In the back of the minds of people who haven’t been given real opportunity is that you will never be reliable. You believe there is always some one who is better than you. Deep down inside you doubt whether you can do because that’s all you’ve being told is “No” “wait”! ” History recorded Obama did not quit his chance but went on. Today Obama’s victory has spread all over the world like a legend. The legend is greatly encouraging people in pursuing their dreams.

We may not be running for president or competing in an Olympic games, but we can learn the spirit from these great stories. Looking at these examples of successful people; the determination in achieving their goals, the courage in taking their chances, their perseverance, and self-confidence in front of disencouraging situations, that’s the kind of spirit that we can learn from.

In front of pressure some one special can make substantial difference if one is lucky, like the coach to a weight lifting man who provides crucial positive sound at the critical moment. Maybe every one of us has had similar memories. To me I can not forget those nice faces when recall those moments: my first time gave public speech in front of whole school; first time being a leader of a class; preparation for entrance exam, they encouraged me to go on in the journey of my life, like a song sang “you raised me up, so I can stand on mountains; you raise me up, to walk on stormy seas; you raise me up… To more than I can be”.

Ladies and gentleman, with courage and persistence, if you like your choices, if you are in a fair competition, when the chance is there, lift the weight, and take a try!
