老舍小說《四世同堂》中的人物形象大致可分為三類：一類是“舊派市民形象”，以祁家老太爺、祈天佑為代表；第二類是“新派市民形象”，其中有以詩人錢默吟、韻梅為代表的正派的或理想的市民形象，以祁瑞宣為代表的“過度人”形象，以祁瑞豐、胖菊子為代表的“洋派”與“新派”的市井無賴形象；第三類是“底層市民形象”，以車夫小崔、剃頭匠孫七為代表。老舍在對這三類人物性格的刻畫中，完成著組建“完整人性”的過程。
