就是說：

As long as one does this, that, and much more beyond, s/he will be home free.

It sounds to me like: As long as I do everything I can think of, I will be home free.

Which is equivalent to saying: I'd never be home free (since I can never get everything taken care of).

也許是我看到的帶上下文的例子還不夠多，也許是你對這個短語的理解略有偏差，or both，感覺這才是不能統一認識的關鍵。
