Both of you write very well. I enjoyed reading the articles from both of you. I feel that a good writer should focus more on developing his (or her) own ideas, cultivating his own style, and finding his own voice. Both of you did pretty good job on those aspects.
Different writers have different styles. Some writers (for example, Earnest Hemingway) always use the short sentences and simple words, yet conveying a rich message. Whereas other writers (some English writers) like to use complicated sentence structures and play with words. Yet both types are great writers, with different styles.
Anyway, keep writing. Develop your own literacy style and avoid clichés and generalization.
