nobrainer，也寫成“no-brainer”或者“no brainer”。
這個詞很容易望文生義。-er後綴，XX人的意思。從拚寫來看，好像是“no brainer”演變成“no-brainer”再演變成“nobrainer”。詞根brain是“腦”，brainer就應該是“腦人”，“no brainer”就是“沒有腦人”。但是，如此望文生義就大錯特錯了。

首先，根本就不存在“brainer”這個詞。所以，再望文生義一次，就是從“no-brain”加後綴“-er”變成“no-brainer”，就是“無腦人”，又錯了。“no”，“brain”和“-er”都好懂，但合在一起就不好懂了。

網上字典有三個解釋，都差不多。第一個：

Informal . anything requiring little thought or effort; something easy or simple to understand or do.

也就是說，“-er”不是“人”的意思，而是“事”的意思，“nobrainer”是“不費腦筋的事”。

再看地二個解釋：
no-brainer definition
Something that is absurdly simple or easy and requires little thought: “Making pumpkin pie can be a no-brainer if you use frozen pastry and canned filling.”
這個解釋和第一個基本一致，還給一個例子：“做南瓜批是不費腦筋是事情”。

第三個解釋：
no-brainer definition

n.
an easy question that takes no thinking to answer; a simple problem that requires no intellect to solve; a dilemma that requires no pondering to resolve. : His proposal of marriage was a no-brainer. She turned him down flat on the spot.

解釋是一樣的，但例子卻大有不同，從例子裏看，“no-brainer”是就是“愚蠢得誰都知道的傻事”，“平常人不費腦筋都知道的傻事”。

在看看新聞裏怎麽用這個詞。

“NDP's 'no brainer' support of postal workers needed more thought”，這個顯然用的都不是三種字典定義，而是用的第三個定義裏的例句的意思：明眼都看得出來新民主當支持郵政罷工是件傻事。言下之意是新民主黨怎麽也不動動腦就支持郵政罷工。

“Using public funds to buy a luxury SUV for a bishop’s birthday request, that has got to be a no-brainer. ”這句裏應該是“不用想都知道是不對的事情”。

“So why won't they accept Democrats' "astonishing concession" of trillions of dollars in cuts in exchange for Republicans approving comparatively tiny tax increases? "If the Republican Party were a normal party," says conservative columnist David Brooks at The New York Times, "it would take advantage of this amazing moment." The Dems' offer is part of negotiations to raise the nation's $14 trillion debt ceiling (without an increase to the federal government's borrowing limit, the U.S. will default on its debts in early August), and presents the GOP with such a massive victory that accepting the deal ought to be "the mother of all no-brainers," Brooks says.”

好了，意思很清楚了，“nobrainer”一般都用來指責別人做了愚蠢至極之事。最後一個新聞用的確實是三個定義的意思，但在文章中一樣是指責：這麽不費腦筋的事情都不會做？

問題不在意思，而在構詞方法的出格的土氣（不規範），而竟然被《紐約時報》這樣的報紙使用。構詞方法比美國唐人講“long time no see”（很久沒見了）還土。但nobrainer比“long time no see”曆史要短得多了，據說是1959年底第一次在報紙漫畫上出現，漫畫變成“漫話”了。多逐漸被接受是90年代的事情，而如今風行和茶黨運動有很大關係。nobrainer是美國市井俚語，其構詞土帽不見得比Chinglish好到那裏。所以，不必怕英語說不好，隻要對方聽得懂意思就行。Chinglish說多了，別人就接受了。“long time no see”在成龍電影裏常用，很受歡迎。“nobrainer”也是今天北美政治新聞中極具“憤青”色彩的語言：構詞越無厘頭越能表達輕蔑的態度。
