The Crystal Palace, constructed in Hyde Park for the world exhibition of 1851, was probably the most unusual architecture of the nineteenth century. It was different from all the other structures of the world because it was made from iron and glass. Since it was one of the tallest buildings in the history, people around the world had come to visit. A huge amount of merchandises were shipped to the exhibition as well as a lot of machines, among those the Smith Steam hammer was the most peculiar. Even though travel back then was not as easy as nowadays, thousands of visitors from around Europe were still sent across English Channel by steam ship. As soon as they reached England, they were sent to the Crystal Palace by train. The total number of visitors reached 6 million. The profit from the exhibition was used to build museums and schools. Later, the Crystal Palace was moved to south of London. Before it was destroyed in the 1936 fire, the Crystal Palace had always been one of the most famous architectures in the world.
