The Crystal Palace perhaps could be counted as the most unusual architecture built in 19th century. It was designed for the 1851 World Exposition and erected in the Hyde Park. Unlike any other buildings, it was made of steel and glass. It was the highest architecture ever built, thus attracted tourists from every corner of the world. A great number of products including many machines were sent to the expo. The steam hammer invented by Smith was the most wonderful among them. Although traveling in that time period was not as easy as it is today, thousands and hundreds visitors crossed the English Channel by steam vessels. They rode to the Crystal Palace by train upon landing. The toll of visitors reached six million. The profit from the expo was for building museums and colleges. The Crystal Palace was moved to the south of London thereafter. It had been the most famous building in the world before it was burnt in 1936.
