You may use the your old /current H1 receipt/case number to check the H1 status online to see whether the H1 was withdrawn and also ask HR to see whether they received the withdrawal notice from USCIS. If it was withdrawn, the best way is that your current employer can request USCIS to reinstate your current H1 status and USCIS agree to reinstate it. Otherwise, you will be in big trouble. So, just forget about your new job now.  The first priority is to reinstate your H1 status, so you had better not make your current employer unhappy even if they make you trouble at this point. Sometimes tolerance and patience is needed in life.
