遞140時H4可以不在美國嗎

我現在正準備遞I-140申請綠卡。因為排期，估計485還要等很多年，所以老婆（H-4）想帶孩子回國住一段時間。請問老婆是在I-140遞之前還是之後回國好一些，如果因為緊急情況老婆現在就回去，會不會對幾個月後我們遞140造成影響，即遞140的時候老婆一定要在美國嗎？如果140 pending,老婆再簽H-4回來，會有什麽困難嗎？謝謝解答。
