I am in my late 50s and still run 3 miles in the morning and ride bikes 20-30 miles. Reason is I started running when I was a teenager and kept the habit whenever I could. Muscle memory is important: if you have been doing these things most of your life you can just keep up. However for people trying to start exercise late in their lives moderation is the key. Don't over do anything (I don't). When I am riding at 15 miles/hour and someone much younger overtakes me, I'll just let them go. I will not fight and bust my knees. BTW bicycle riding is highly recommended since most of our countrymen can ride!
