Technique 1 Avoid translation

Now you have the objective. You have have 1000 hours to spare. What is the trick?

You need to learn techniques.

Let’s start by discuss the source of your information.

We read lots of stuff each day. Some information originate in Chinese. Some information originate in English.

We only react to a small amount of information we encounter. If you are more likely to react to news originated in English, your could speak English more fluently.

The reason is that you avoided translation when you give your response in English.

The translation is a complex process. If you do it in real time, that is, reading Chinese and commenting in English, you would stumble on certain words. That costs you fluency.

So one technique to speak English fluently is to read more materials sourced in English.

Sometimes when you react to news, you don’t know how to express it. You can’t express your raw feeling these days because it could be politically incorrect.

For example, when you read a news of mass school shooting. What is your reaction?

Do you say “Thank God, there is no one I know got killed.”

This thought may cross your mind. But you can’t comment in that way to other people. If shows you are insensitive and not empathetic.

The usual response is that this is heart breaking and I hope the politicians can get over their differences and do something to prevent this from happening again.

In the old days, when you read a piece of English news, you don’t know how to comment on it. Now many news sites have comment section below the news. There are also plenty of Tweets you can follow. These are great materials to help you to know what is the appropriate response you can express.

The advancement of technology makes more English sourced materials and English comments available to everyone.

For those who want to speak fluently, they should get information more from the English source.
